preparing

The_partsS

These are all the parts i will be printing in the next weeks.

30 platforms each will take at least 10h to print i guess.

i will start with the right hand.

the blender file can be found here:

d-oo-b.ch/d-oo-b-robot/Replicator_prints_03.blend

I will print the parts in ABS on a Replicator dual from makerbot (optimized by d-oo-b)

next step is i want to define the coloring of my robot.

Starting my journey to my first robot

Today i made the decision final:

I will build the open source robot InMoov (http://inmoov.blogspot.com/)

ImMoov robot
I plan to build all on this image except the head

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W62Wfz1xqYg

My daughter discovered this robot in march 2012 in the thingiverse thing:17773 and ask me if i will print it for her on my 3D printer. I told her thats gonna be a big job and that i am not sure if i ever make it.

Today is the day one i decided to create this robot as it is today 2 arms chest no head.

So i ordered the following stuff on amazon (total cost about 800US$):

Delivery estimate: Feb. 5, 2013 – Feb. 9, 2013

2
“Arduino MEGA 2560 R3”
Personal Computers; $59.95
In Stock
Sold by: CanaKit

I decided to buy the bigger board because i can imagine that i will add some more stuff (lights) one day and i felt like spending a bit more on the controller cant hurt. Also in case the project fails and i want to build something else someday.

12
“HexTronik HX12K Standard Metal Gear Servo 55g / 10kg / .16sec”
HexTronik; Toy; $22.95
In Stock
Sold by: Aerospace Robotics

These servos looks solid and i hope they wont burn as the creator of the original hand was writing happend to his.

Delivery estimate: Feb. 5, 2013 – Feb. 8, 2013

3
“Sealed Lead Acid Battery – UB6120 – F1 type terminal – 12Ah [Electronics]”
Electronics; $17.45
In Stock
Sold by: eComElectronics

Lead batteries for a stable power supply as recommended. I did not buy the charger yet as i will build the robot in europe and i am now in the US (different power volage). I will buy one when i am back in europe.

Delivery estimate: Feb. 5, 2013 – Feb. 8, 2013

1
“Tuf Line Guides Choice Hollowcore Spectra braid 200 lb x 300yd”
Misc.; $59.95
In Stock
Sold by: Bestdefense

It was actually impossible to find such a fishing line in the local shops here so i had no other choice than purchase this product online and i hope its a good one for the project. It is certainly more line than i need for the project but I might have another use for it some day.

Delivery estimate: Feb. 6, 2013 – Feb. 11, 2013

8
“Hitec 31805S HS-805BB Mega Giant Scale 2BB Servo”
Toy; $38.98
In stock. Processing takes an additional 2 to 3 days.
Sold by: Best Service Stores

I was not able to find better ones so i bought the ones the creator suggested.

It took me almost a year to save the money and now i finally spend it.

I am excited and also nervous. This will be a successful project? Will the servos be strong enough? Will my skills in electronics be sufficient to create a moving robot as i see it on the video. In the next few months i will try to build it and blog about it.

I wish myself good luck with that d-^^-b
